| The Shoalhaven PC Users Group was formed in 1987 by a group of PC enthusiasts. The group has evolved since then but preserves its original aim of offering help and support to novice computer users.
Our members cover a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels. Advanced users are a valuable asset to the Group and find that fellow members pose challenging questions and are grateful for any help. Our main aim is to offer support and information to all our members. We do not restrict our services to members, but we strongly encourage you to become a member. For our membership and renewal form see above. Our meetings are a forum to demonstrate latest release software and new or interesting hardware. We also discuss topical issues and demonstrate 'how to' techniques and the development of new technologies. Meeting topics are varied and we try to cover something of interest to everyone over the year. In the past we have demonstrated the following: Networking Technologies Windows NT, Windows 2000 , XP and Vista. Desktop Publishing Software Shareware The Internet Movie Making and DVD creation Music & Synthesizers Genealogy Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, Front Page, PowerPoint) The following list is a brief description of some of the hardware that has been demonstrated: Sound Cards and Sound Systems Graphics and Text Scanners Video Cameras Network Technologies Digital Cameras Hard Disk Drives CD Burners To the left is a link to our "How to" pages
which provide guidance to some computing procedures. There are also
about 20 short tutorial videos available either as an autorun data
DVD for $10 including postage or as individual free downloads at one of
our Sunday Afternoon meetings (3rd Sunday of the month). See Geoff
Spencer. If you are a member or prospective member let us know the sort of topics you would like to see discussed or presented during our meetings and tutorials. This is so easy to do. Just go to the links at the side and click on the survey form link, fill it in on line and click the submit button ! |
| Our meetings also offer a forum for problem solving. We endeavour to help any user with a problem, no matter how trivial or complex. If our members can not solve the problem on the night we will suggest further contacts. These services are free to our members at the meetings. Got a computer problem? Come along to the meetings and tell us and the chances are someone will have a solution or at least will put you on the right track. We also have Special Interest Groups and run occasional workshops but mostly coaching / tutorial activities are on a one to one basis usually on the SUNSIG (3rd Sunday afternoon) get together. Our monthly Newsletter is circulated to all members. Copies are also distributed through our sponsors, major PC retail outlets in the area, and to the Shoalhaven City Library. Extracts from the Newsletter are also published electronically on this site. |
